York Regional Sym- phony is now plain York Symphony. The change in name. the third in five years, was made last week. The orchestra, which started out as Richmond Hill Symphony, will hold its first concert under its new banner, Oct. 18 at Richmond Hill United Church when it presents four works by major musicians. These are: Adagio for Strings by Barber; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8, or Metronome Symphony; Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5; and The Thieving Magpie by Rossini. Last week, about 40 friends of the orchestra gathered at the home of president Dr. Jim Knowles in Aurora for a wine and cheese party. One of the main reasons for the evening was to launch the new brochure advertising the subscription series â€" the first of its kind â€" for the coming season. York Symphony has new name The Doctor’s House and Livery in Kleinburg, one of the most popular eating places in the southern part of York Region, has just received special recognition from World Famous Restaurants International, by being invited to become a member of the organization. Selections are made on the recommendation of leading newspapers and editors and by the judgment of the In- ternational‘s executive committee. The Shaw Festival at Niagara-on-the-Lake has already announced three of its productions for the 1976 festival, and two of them are by the old master himself. They are: Arms and the Man, and Mrs. Warren‘s Profession. The third play is Sir James Barrie’s The Admirable Crichton. Arms and the Man was first produced at the Avenue Theatre in London, April 21, 1894, and Mrs. Warren’s Profession in 1902. The Admirable Crichton was first per- formed November 4. 1902. at the Duke of York Theatre in London, where many of Barrie's plays premiered.
