Lose to Midland 5-4 The Oak Ridges Dynes Jewellers scored 12 goals in two games but could only salvage one point out of it all in Mid-Ontario Junior B action. And it took some last minute heroics Monday night to get even that one point as the Jewellers tied Owen Sound 8»8 after 6-4 going into the final 20 minutes. Scoring hero this time out was Davey Stuart as he scored the tying goal with two minutes and 12 seconds remaining from Tony Robinson and Jim Roffey‘ It was his second goal of the game. The Jewellers looked impressive taking a 3-1 lead in the first period but Mark Kazarian (he scored three on the night) and then poured home three straight goals in the second, two of them by Tim Abbott and the other by Kazarian. Bet‘uddled The befuddled Jewellers recovered tying the game from Stuart and Kirk Stover. Owen Sound moved in front on Mark Aiken's goal but the Jewellers tied the game on Steve Sherman’s goal from Carruthers. She's been treating me rather shabbily. Hasn’t bought me a car for I don’t know how long. I distinctly remember thanking her for the last one. My mother didn't send me a Christmas card this year but that's all right. Just as long as she comes through with the present. I’m? a little wbrried about her lately. Her moods, I mean Anyway, the sports scene is certainly bright as of the moment in the Hill, particularly as it concerns the Richmond Hill Provincial Junior A Rams who are on something of a win streak, Like 13 games in a row without a defeat (as of writing, remember) and perched jauntin up in first place. Thought it was an ideal time to parse a few phrases with Coach Karl Brimblecombe as regards his seemingly adrenalin-inspired club this year. My, how time flies, It’s hard to believe Mr. Brimblecombe is in his sixth year with the club. To think of it, I was young when he joined the club away back when; Spell it right I hadn‘t even heard of him even though he was officially listed as assistant coach to Bill “Scotty” Wilson when the Rams were busy struggling in the old ‘8' loop. Dynes rally to tie Owen Sound Karl Brimblecombe . . .the good life? Thunderbirds on the attack Win streak ’Tis the season Fred Simpson the defence simply collapsed in the middle session. That first 20 minutes saw Dynes‘ goals by Stuart from D. Roffey and Ian Crockford; Greg Bogaerts from Steve Sherman; and Kirk Stover from Brian Carruthers. No championship There's only one thing wrong with all those pictures. None of them denotes a cham- pionship team although Karl has never missed the playoffs and has been knocking on the door. Maybe this year. “That around,‘ was tha that inc like Gre It took me a year to figure out how to spell his name and I’m not positive I've got it right yet. Karl was reclining in the small cubicle that is his office at the arena the other day when I wandered down the corridor. Inside, the walls surrounding his desk are starting to look crowded with all the team pictures shouldering one another and providing mute testimony of the years Karl has been around. “I figure we’ve got the best- balanced team ever,” he said, “and if any team could do it this one can. However, it all depends on such things as breaks and injuries.” Karl figures he‘s won something like 212 games out of 300 plus we’ve played in as well as gone through some 750 junior players since I’ve been here. That‘s a lot of players." His all-time sentimental-favorite team to date was the club he handled in his first full season. That was the club that gave That w Markham finals beft That boasted Daryl Barnett Carr, 31 “Youimust remember Lumley,“ he said. “I picked Dave up after he had been let go by several other clubs and he turned out to be a big find. You just can’t tell. Now he’s got a pro future with hom. He was drafted last year by Montreal.” Owen Sound got one goal back from Mark Kazarian (he scored three on the night) and then poured home three straight goals in the second, two of them by Tim Abbott and the other by Kazarian. There must be something strange in the sky from the looks of Thornlea's Rob Morrow 33 and De La Salle's Lee Hardy and Jim Neundorf. It was only the basketball. De La Salle went on to whip Thomlea and take the “Court of Kings“ tournament at King City. For story turn to 8-3. Photo by Hogg Photo by Hogg Newly acquired Richmond Hill goalie Danny Hildebrand was outstanding throughout the game as the visitors outshot the home side by 40-31. Penalty shot Things even started out rosy for the Thunderbirds in the first 2 minutes as they opened the scoring at 8:30 on a penalty shot by Ross Gordon who was hauled down on a breakaway as he crossed the collingwood blueline. I have no intention of dignifying the charges laid by one Mr. A] Harrietha against our association by writing a long argumentative reply. It may not that'll ever I Thunderbirds being. The Birds came on like giant killers Monday night to edge the leagueâ€" leading Collingwood Shipbuilders 5â€"4 in an ulcerâ€"tickling Mid Ontario Junior B hockey game at Thornhill Community Centre. It wasn’t easy though as the Thunâ€" derbirds had to play two men short in the final three minutes to skate off with the win. Libelous hogwash Those of you who read this column know, without my telling you. that his allegations are nothing but a lot of libelous hogwash. I might add that at no time did our association communicate with the MTHL either by letter or by telephone or by any other means; and to the best of my knowledge neither did the Gordon made no'mistake as hé dekeu the Collingwood goalie and pushed the puck home. I feel sad for the young lad who has been suspended from MTHL play on a decision made by them and them alone. All I can add is he is as welcome to play here as any one of our other 700 boys. And. I guess. that’s all I will say for now and let‘s go on to happier things. Las Vegas ho! The Las Vegas draw is 10 days in the past now but the good memories linger on. It was really a fun night, but both Bill Majury and I are somewhat disap- pointed to see that Johnny Carson is The Richmond Hill Rams staved off a third period rally by Weston Dodgers Sunday night to win 3-2 and ex- tend their unbeaten streak to 13 games in the red-hot race for first place in the Provincial Junior A hockey league. Sunday's game at Weston saw the Rams take a 1-0 lead in a fairly even first period. The goal was the result of the pesky forechecking by diminutive Ken Paraskevin. Then came the 7:32 mark and the Weston team got onto the scoreboard with only one second remaining in Guest’s sentence. Rams‘ netminder Brian Stankiewicz made a couple of saves before Andy Clark drilled one through a maze of Knocks in rebound Paraskevin relieved a Weston defenseman of the puck behind the net and pushed it in front to Rick Febbo who had a whack at it. Handyman Mitch Edwards promptly cashed the rebound. The Rams had a wide territorial and shot edge in the second period and lengthened their lead to 3-0 when Myles McCauley fired in a Frank Nigro rebound at 4:55 and Jack Guest scored his first goal of the season on a power play at 15.47. Paraskevin and Febbo handled the puck before Guest hit the twine. Big rally Weston counted two third period power play goals to make it close. The period started off as a repeat of the first two and the Rams had managed'to hold off the Dodgers for most of the two minutes of a Guest penalty. It was the same Rams using the final 20 minutes to overcome a 4-1 deficit against Ajax Tuesday night of last week in Richmond Hill and end up with a 5-5 tie. It’s all hogwash! Comeback Then the visitors started their comeback surge on goals by Peter Crawford at 8:04 and one by Steer at 18:29. One of the numerous outstanding players for Thornhill was Danny Somers who played with last year's juvenile team and is a recent returnee. Outstanding Also outstanding were Mable and Gordon and defenseman Wally Stankov. Howson made it 4â€"1 at 12:48 from Jones and Cromb and the Thunderbirds looked home free. It was Thornhill's first-ever win over Collingwood. The Thunderbirds were slated to play in Barrie last night (Tuesday) and in Midland Friday night before coming home next Monday against Orillia.
