Irish Loyalist sold first Hill village lots By Mary Dawson Hugh Shaw. who purchased the 200 acres on the northeast corner of Yonge and Markham Road (the Crown deed being dated 1801) was another United Empire Loyalist. Although an Irishman by birth, he had spent many years in the American colonies before coming to Canada. llllLllllEWlllTWllflEllflP§ Dear editor With reference to Jim Irving's column Viewpoint From The Regional Desk in the Dec. 10 issue of The Liberal, I assume the “report†mentioned in the third column refers to a report made by the committee formed to study ocâ€" cupations programs throughout York County. Why occupations ended at King City Secondary Grants totalling almost $26,000 are being requested of the Town of Richmond Hill by 13 organizations â€"â€" but municipal staff and council's finance com- mittee chairman want the total limited to less than $7,000. Over the past 10 months, this committee, consisting of two trustees (Mrs. Chris McMonagle of Markham and myself), In 1975 council allotted $7,875 (including $750 in contingency funds) for its annual grants to non- profit groups. Ask Hill Staff and finance c h a i r m a n A n d y Chateauvert, however, recommend 1976 grants be no more than $6,505 plus a $750 contingency fund. - For next-year the total requested, including contingency, _is $6,525. Siméoe’s offer of 200 Largest single request is $15,400 for the Rich- mond Hill Youth Concert Band. 7 The recommended amount for the group is $2,100, the same as this year. Other groups receiving grants this year were the Richmond Hill hor- ticultural society, agricultural society, historical society. York philharmonic choir, Rich- vale drum corps, Remembrance Day com- mittee, Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, Conference on Local Government. Salvation Army and Disaster Reserve‘ _The issue was to be discussed at finance committee and will then go to council for a decision. Holiday Garbage Collection. Although all the programs are functioning well, we found the program at King City Secondary School was limited in the number of options it was able to offer because of the small number of students in- volved (only 37). Consequently, the board decided it was in the best interests of the students to discontinue the program at King City (as of Sept. 1, 1976) and instead send these students to Don Head (Richmond Hill) or Huron InnrdertoalowMuicipalStnflflnoppaulitytoujoyfln fasï¬vaseasmd'anieipaIDfï¬ceswilbadIm-im fol lowing dates: Wednesday, December 24th, 1975 at 12:00 noon Thursday, December 25th, 1975 Friday, December 26th, 1975 Thursday, January Ist. 1976 C. The board also sup- ported a recommendation that more in-service training was needed for our occupations teachers because many teachers have not had specialized training in this field. In this way, the quality of teaching throughout the region would increase and our students will certainly benefit.
