My companion chose the Sherwood Special Mixed Grill at $4.50, which was a splendid looking plate of a pork chop, sausages. and a slice of liver. all topped with bacon strips. For the most part, it was a palatable meal. but the liver was “off†with an obvious taint which she couldn’t attribute to any seasoning. When finished. Dining out should be a treat. whether you‘re a businessman treating a client. a family enjoying a special outing. or a young man trying to impress his sweetheart. Visting new restaurants and trying out the culinary creations of chefs from many countries is, for the most part. an exciting ex- perience. But you can‘t win them all. as the saying goes. Our visit to the Sherwoou Park Steak House and Tavern in Markham was far from exciting and questionable as a treat. A fairly large establish- ment with a seating capacity of about 100 people. the Sherwood's interior is adequately decorated with red table cloths, wagon-wheel lamps. and a long cocktail bar. Unfortunately, what- ever method they used to cook them left the edges of the meat a bit singed and brittle. Other than that they were quite tasty. Both meals had side dishes of a baked potato and sliced beets. I started with a Greek Salad. Athenian style. with marinated herrings. ripe olives. lettuce, radishes, celery, and tomato. A colorful and tasty dish at $1.50. My chocie from the list of entrees was the broiled South African lobster tails at $9.50 which was served with a side dish of lemon flavored, drawn butter. 1 was pleased to see two small‘ tender tails instead of the larger and often stringy ones served we mentioned the liver to the waitress who gave us a sympathetic “tch†and that was all.
