Grieve said a letter to Dr. Jack Luftman, chairman of the Save the Fairground Committee, from his solicitor, had been sent to Luftman as a representative of the Markham Ratepayers. Luftman has since given the letter to 'council and used it to raise questions about the legality of the sale of the Markham Fairgrounds by the Markham and East York Agricultural Society. In his letter of resignation, Grieve urged Mrs. Joan Lynen, president of the Markham Ratepayers, “to regain control of your organization.†Grieve feels he c'an‘t be a member of an organization attacking the council on which he sits. Nor does he want to be associated with what he considers to be an attack on the fair board on which “many of my friends sit.†he told The Liberal.
