A clinic for students wishing to learn how to time and score in- terschool basketball games was held on Sept. 22. RHHS. students at- tending were lngrid Van Weert, Anke Bakker, Kelly Shadelbauer. Elaine Gallant, Lynn Bourne, and Janis Auger. Paul Kisko, John Santos, Rob Frater and Glenn Doyle, coached by Mr. Roger} Cote, represented RHHS in the York County Golf Tournament on Sept. 24. The team tied for eighth place out of a field of 15 teams. Paul Kisko, achieving sixth place individually Sadie Hawkins The annual Sadie Hawkins Golf Tour- nament was held Sept 27. It was a girl-ask-boy affair. each couple competing as a single person, taking turns hitting the ball. After nine holes, the winners were Randy Girls hockey At a meeting of the board of directors last week, I was criticized by one of our members for not selling girls‘ hockey hard enough in my column of last week so I am going to try again. Busy in sports for Hill High Ladies yet Included in the group were two ladies who have taken on the duties of manager for two of the teams. I do believe that this is a first for us and I should like to welcome both of them to the group with our sincere ,thanks for participating. Trainers wanted Once again this year we have a pressing need for volunteers to act as trainers for our teams. Both Jack Williams and Bill Chatwell are standing by) and are prepared to teach anyone who is in- terested. We are very fortunate to have the services of these men who are among the most competent trainers in the country so somewhere out there amongst 'y‘du; must be a few who will volunteer to do this. It would be of great benefit to both you and the players. Once again we are blessed with a fine group of very cooperative managers and coaches so it should be a most rewarding year for everyone. RICHMOND HILL â€" I was at a meeting of the parents of the Peewee ‘A‘ team last Friday and it was a most interesting and pleasant experience. My hat is off to Bill Wolfson and Bruce McKenzie for a well organized and frank presentation of their plans for the team in the coming year. Both parents and staff are off on the right foot and it promises a great year for the boys. So good luck to all of them. Final meeting Last Sunday morning all the coaches and managers of the town teams had a final meeting before the season opens. John Mulvihill, Ken Ham and Tom Graham outlined all the problems of an operational nature to them. THE LIBERAL. Wednesday. After vigorous play, the win- ners were Mark Girdler and Mary Croke, in the, last 15 seconds. Good luck for the rest of the season. RHHS‘ Junior Soccer team is doing well thus far. Although they have been defeated twice out of five starts, all games have been close. They tied Markham 1-1 on Sept. 23. On the 27th they lost 2- 0 against Thornhill and on the 28th they lost by a‘ score of 2-1. So far, they have one win, two ties, and two losses. Junior basketball The Junior girls Basketball Team, coached by Mrs. Dorothy Dies, played its first game of the season on Sept. 28, against St. Robert's. They won 22-21, scoring their last basket There may not be anv Jack Nichlaus’ among RHHS students, but nevertheless all enjoyed themselves. Be sure to come out next year. Hughes-Guest and Laura Hoover, and Randy Bennett and Martha Dynes. Skatathon I mentioned our skatathon last week and you can be sure I will again in the weeks to come. It is set for Oct. 30 and the Ladies Auxiliary have once again done a fine job in organizing this event. We know that along with the York County Mentally Retarded and Arc Industries that these are two most worthwhile endeavours so please support us when the knock comes on your door. Remember, registr- ation fees do not begin to cover the expenses of operating hockey over a year and we desperately need other income. For some reason the word has gone around that we had closed off. Well, we haven‘t by a long shot. We have room for lots more and we will continue to register for the next three weeks. Skateexchange. Remember our skate exchange? Well, it’s open and operating between 1 pm. and 3 pm. every Saturday. 'It is well stocked with used equipment and well worth a visit. Also, if you have used equipment at home bring it in and we’ll help you sell it. We believe that hockey provides great recreation and citizenship training and the players need your support. The arena is never far away so make a point of dropping in throughout the season and enjoy some Happy New Season Our hockey season is open this week. The conveners have been busy telephoning and assigning kids to their teams and tonight (Wednesday) our Midget House League begins. Hockey We are still holding their ice time open and have coaches and managers standing by. So, girls, come on down to the arena and join up so those who have already joined will not be disappointed. Registrations Registration for both boys and girls will con- tinue this week, with registration forms available at Bob's Skate Shop at the arena. As I mentioned, we are short of registrations in both junior and senior girls and so we need more in order to operate three teams. JOHN DAILEY
