Stop work on tavern The committee was commenting on a letter from York Region Roman Catholic separate school board saying it would seek to hold up future subdivision plans until money was assured for schools. Schools delayed Then. the building department hit them with a stop work order. Town council was to try to resolve the problem on Tuesday. NEWMARKET â€"â€" While the ministry of housing is trying to bring in more homes, the ministry of education is refusing to build schools to serve the new development, York Region planning com- mitttee members charged last week. But a town planning department official led them to believe they could start work on the new facade of the building without town council approval. Council. sitting as the planning committee, was all set to let the ad- ministrator sort out the situation last week but Councillor Bud Bonner intervened. He said the alterations involved the whole front of the building, and must be brOught before council. The tavern has been a cause of ‘complaint for three years, with such problems as garbage at the rear. MARKHAM -â€" A stop work order was issued last week on work being done on the facade of a Markham tavern. Renovations with the intent of turning the Golden Lamb tavern into a restaurant were allowed to continue. They have already complied with the town staff request to demolish archways built illegally by a previous owner. The new owners of the tavern have had it about 10 months. The planning com- mittee moved to set up a meeting with both ministries to deal with the issue. "i‘gél Ed Edwards brings over -u years of experience in selling new and used cars and trucks.
