The candidate in question has no experience as a trustee. No experience despite signs Dear editor Iwas amazed to note election signs now appearing in King Twp. (promoting a new candidate for the school board) proclaim “experience counts”. It isn’t a crime to be a candidate without previous experience as a trustee. it is a doubtful recommendation for the position to be a candidate guilty of misleading the public into believing otherwise. Subdivisions, shopping plazas, industrial parks have proliferated. One expects a person in the writer‘s position will have the interests of his fellow realtors in mind when making an appeal to continue the development upon which their livelihood depends. It is not entirely unexpected the writer would be opposed to anti- development groups. He believes their efforts are harmful and costly to the average taxpayer. The average taxpayer, however, knows his tax bill has increased rapidly along with this development. Dear editor As a newcomer to this area, I find myself faced with an imminent local election and no background information upon which to base a personal vote. He states that ”with the rising of property taxes, the time has come for the public to realize continued prosperity can only be guaranteed through continued development". Wan ts vote issues aired Pushed realtor side It is not surprising the president of the York Region Real Estate Board advocates continuous development in York Region (The Guest Spot â€"â€" Liberal. Nov. 3). Dear editor Traditionally, when politics are involved, the issues become sub- servient to infighting. All we read is who has quoted the right statistics, who is the better man, etc., etc. In other words, I would Along with this development goes the loss of valuable agricultural land (48,000 acres in the Region of York between 1961 and 1971) and the eventual result that we will be dependent on outside sources for our food supplies. The idea all development is good and that all we need to do to prosper is “build, build, build," is outmoded today. Future “continued development” will not guarantee that taxes will not rise. Indeed the opposite will probably oc- cur. Food prices, because of the lé§vs of supply and demand, will then soar. Otherwise we are acting like Louis XV in France â€" “Apres nous le deluge!" It is time politicians realized sound, sensible land use policies must be in- troduced by the provincial government before it it too late. IAN SCOTT, York North NDP candidate, 190 Prospect St..
