Dâ€"Z â€"â€" THE LIBERAL. Wednesday, December 1, 1976 VOTED AS A SOLID BLOCK. Remember the Kleinburg Official Plan? The recorded votes were 5 ‘lndependents’, ‘Yes' with Jackson and Cameron voting ‘No’. Remember the Maple Midway Plan? Again all five "Inde- pendents’ voted for it with Jackson and Cameron against. And who can forget the Pine Valley Development? Know what happened? Right! Once again the five ‘Independents' voted for it. while Jackson and Cameron voted ‘No’. Now, don't you think that this voting record seems curious behaviour for five elected officials who claim to be ‘Independents’? With a Council loaded five against two, Lorna Jackson and Jim Cameron, along with two new candidates â€" Gail Back in December of 1974, you, the voter, elected seven people to represent your interests in the Town of Vaughan. They were Mr. Garnet Williams as Mayor (acclamation) Mr. David Fraser as Regional Councillor (acclamation), Mr. Terry Goodwin, Mr. Ab Hollingshead, Mr. Fred Arm- strong, Mr. lim Cameron and Mrs. Lorna Jackson. Two of these seven people, Lorna Jackson and lim Cameron, campaigned on the same platform of concern for the elec- torate and controlled development in the Town of Vaughan. Lorna Jackson received 2519 votes, while lim Cameron re- ceived 2678 votes. The number of votes for each of these two candidates was, in both cases, more than the votes received by any other candidate. Each of the other five people in that election campaigned as ‘lndependents’, yet in the two years since that election, each time an important issue came to a vote, ALL FIVE ‘INDEPENDENTS' I ISN'T IT TIME THE MAJORITY OF VOTERS WERE GIVEN THE MAJORITY VOTE? RE-ELECT ELECT McCormick and Ted Pickles - are asking for your help in evening up those odds this election. Your vote can give them a majority of four Council seats so that they form a concerned Council group that can deal effectively with problems and block any ‘ramrod’ legislation not in the best interests of the Town of Vaughan voters. These four concerned candidates are openly running together on a common platform - to build a better community with a responsible and responsive Council. They believe this is the only honest way to appeal to you as a voter, rather than resorting to under-theâ€"counter deals of a hidden slate. None of these four candidates has ever been, or ever will be, financed by developers or vested interests. This advertisement is an appeal to you as a voter for your help in electing all four of these candidates as Council members on December 6th. ' For effective representation - elect all four. It's the only way to beat the odds. “At the bottom of the tributes paid to democracy is the little manfwalking in the little booth, with a little pencil, making a little cross on a little piece of paper, and no amount of rhetoric or voluminous discussion can possibly diminish the overwhelming importance of the point." 0 accept gradual growth only at a rate which will preserve the existing character of our communities ° assess all proposals and support those which enhance our quality of life and protect property values ° support increased industrial development in carefully designated areas to keep residential taxes down, 0 ensure that Council adopts a responsible attitude to Vaughan’s environment 0 listen and respond to your Views OUR PLATFORM ELECT RE-ELECT Winston S.
