The letter described the need for an open mind if anything worthwhile 'were to be accomplished. I thought the entire letter was a perfect description of Mayor Dave Schiller's policies. It was on his recom- mendation such open minded policies were brought into a council I was interested to read the letter in last week‘s Liberal regarding open- mindedness. A government that foolishly pur- chased land for a work‘s yard at an outrageous price (presently costing the taxpayer $93,000 a year), land that has been recommended by other levels of government not suitable for develop- ment. Dear editor I can truly say. that over the six years that my husband had been in politics. I attended many candidate meetings and social functions. and this had to be a first for me. It would appear this person is a female chauvinist and I certainly could not give her my support. I‘UCIHIIUHG 1111]. Schiller's mind open Last Thursday evening, I was present at the local cable TV station with my husband, as he is working to elect Tony Kirk. I had been sitting in the lounge, watching the candidates on the program, when Lorna walked in and shook hands with all the men present â€" but refused to shake mine. If this is an indication of how this person is looking after the interests of all the people in the town of Vaughan (men and "women"), apparently. we Women just don‘t count. (MRSJ LILLIAN GILBERT R.R.1. Woodbridge. Ont. A government that supported growth at all costs, including high rise in the historic core of our town. A government that supported mass development on the Langstaff Jail Farm property. Dear editor As the wife of a former member of council in the town of Vaughan, I would like to express my views of one of the candidates running for council in the forthcoming election â€" Mrs. Lorna Jackson. So. just a little word to the wise â€" "Ladies" â€" this person is willing to shake hands with the men. but refuses to shake hands with women. A government that frequently held secret meetings. Secret meeting end I remember only too Well the type of government we had in Richmond Hill just two years ago. It was a government that was con- stantly under attack for the way it was running the town. One that supported a mobile home park proposal submitted by a fellow councillor. Mr. Rowe represents the type of politician of two years ago, and in fact stroneg supported all of the above. Mac Clement, clerk; Mrs. Jean Holman, deputy clerk then clerk; Alf Picton, personnel officer; Hessie Rimone, planning director; Cathy Founder, planning assistant; Peter Holloway, by-law officer; Bob Baird‘ engineering department. Dear editor These people represent a loss of approximately 50 years' experience. As any businessman knows. their departure would create tremendous disruption, poor morale, gross inef- ficiencies, as well as financial loss in any normal business. On Dec. 6 I will be supporting Mayor Dave Schiller. I would trust the voters are aware of this lack of leadership on the part of the present mayor and will think carefully D/dn ’z‘ shake hands What happens in any organization is a reflection on the man at the top. Never in the history of Richmond Hill have so many important staff members left during one term of office. It is my understanding that during the past two years, the following key personnel have left the employ of the town: Dear editor: I am extremely disappointed in the leadership capabilities of Richmond Hill Mayor David Schiller. (MRS) MARION HOHENER, 216 Duncan Rd., Richmond Hill, Ont. 1 am afraid my con clusions after reading her letter would be that if a man is truly interested in hearing what all the people of the town are interested in, he will make himself available to all the people of the town when meetings are arranged for this pur- pose. In closing I would like to give an unsolicited, unpaid plug for Mayor Schiller. I feel he has demonâ€" strated his interest in at least hearing from all the I was also able to determine from her letter that she has had good communication with mayoralty candidate Gordon Rowe. ' Perhaps this is because her residence in Gormley is close to Oak Ridges where Rowe resides. I wish we in the southern extreme of the town had this same op- portunity. Dear editor: Local newspapers such as The Liberal are an important source of in- formation and en- tertainment year-round. If I were to make such contact with Rowe I would have to place a long distance call to his home or residence in order to let him know of our needs in this area. While I am grateful for this medium, it can also be somewhat misleading if statements which appear in the press are not challenged or questioned. This statement seemed to question “my rights“ as a property owner. But at election time they become even more interesting. For this reason I feel obliged to write. I think I missed the point she was making somewhere. I was very interested in the letter from Mrs. Dora Strachan under the heading “Thinks Rowe should replace Schiller“. However, I am afraid I came to the conclusion the reasons for her feeling oppressed and having no rights somehow related to the severe winters in Canada which appear to be the responsibility of Mayor Schiller. I did however see some contradiction in her letter regarding the point on ‘rights‘ when she menâ€" tioned “people who seek to own a property larger than just a subdivision lot, shouldn‘t be allowed a piece greater than they can maintain". I proceeded to read the letter in the hope I would somehow be enlightened; 443 MOUNT PLEASANT RD. TORONTO, ONT.
