High school basketball actian These players are using all kinds of facial expressions and gyrations to talk the basketball down at Thornlea-Bayview The result was én impressive 63-38 triumph for the Thors under coach Dennis Herbert. It was quite a night all around with the Bayview Midgets edging the Thors And it did last Friday night when the unbeaten Bayview Secondary School Bengal Seniors took on the unbeaten Thornlea Secondary School Thors. By Dennis Herbert THORNHILL â€" When two un- defeated teams collide head on the basketball court it’s like the old song, “Something’s gotta give.“ It’s happened again. The January doldrums. Just when I thought I had it licked: I guess what fooled me was getting them a week late this year. Over-confidence will kill you every time. Ieven took extreme measures this year to beat them. Followed my mother’s advice and took one-a-day pills. Great idea except that it didn’t work. Couldn‘t find anyone who would coâ€"operate. Then I tried popping some other- type iron pills but they didn’t work either. This was brought brutally home when I went out to my car the other day and it wouldn‘t start. The battery was okay. Didn’t have the strength to turn the key. Dreary You know what it’s all about. One d-â€"- thing after another. I’ve been saving my money for the last 15 years. Not go go anywhere special. Nothing grandiose like the Bahamas, Acapulco or south of Steeles Avenue. I want a psychiatrist. I need one. I tried to get a doctor to send me to one years ago but he came up with some lousy advice. He told me to go out and get a job. I did and I‘ve never been happy since. All I needed was a psychiatrist. Back to the January doldrums. You have to face this world alone. Not all bad It's really not all that bad. The Richmond Hill Provincial A Rams have perked up a bit and look like a reasonable bet to hang on to the seventh place spot or even, pray, advance a little. Eighth place, of course. is the cutoff line. Lower and Be a good ball January do/drums Then, of course, the Jewellers are off to the sunny climes of North Bay to partake of the Ontario Winter Games against other hockey hopefuls. Then there‘s the Oak Ridges Dynes Jewellers and Thornhill Thunderbirds of the Mid-Ontario Junior B loop. Both look like winners this year sharing first and second place respectively. Luverly Wouldn’t it be luverly if both clubs met in the finals? There I go again. Off on a cloud of wonderful fan- cifying. January gets to me all the time. I’m not going to make any predictions or even hoped-for comments on that deal. I’ll tell you why. Where will it all end? I suppose I’ll lose my toe rubbers before it’s all over. I don’t think I could stand that. However, it’s certainly not that unlikely. Both clubs going great and I’ve got a feeling the Thunderbirds are coming on real strong. Beware them. More woe The other night I arrived at the Rams-Royal York game and as I entered the door a Rams’ official waved frantically for me to leave. Didn’t know why until I realized the score was tied 1-1 and, it seems, every time I get to a game the Rams come up losers. Take it easy, I said, I feel lucky tonight. Naturally, the 'Rams lost 2-1 and, to boot, I lost the 50-50 draw for the 800 thousandth time. Never a win- ner. that and you’re out fred simpson Who’s who? “This game is really a who’s-who contest. They haven’t lost in league play and nor have we. It will be nice to know where each of us stands after 32 minutes of play.“ A pre-game comment by Thomlea coach Herbert summed up the ex- citement preceeding the final senior game: 36-32 and the Thor juniors coming up with an impressive 55-38 win against their “up the road" Bayview Livals: Secondary school seniors game.
