RICHMOND HILL â€" The Richmond Hill 'Scotia Bank Minor Peewees' second team faced two tops teams last week â€" and lost. Richmond Hill Peewee Scotia Bankers lose B~2 â€" THE LIBERAL. Wednesday, January 26. 1977 Jewellers dump Midland 9-6 Don ’t blame the gunl Nobody right now is talking about gun legislation, registration or whatever you wish to call it. Soon someone up in Ottawa will reintroduce a bill on guns and everyone will get hot again. Such a permit would only be necessary for the first gun and the permit could be refused to those who have criminal records. After receiving a permit. the person can now buy a gun. This is ridiculous! When I save my money for a gun, I look forward to ‘ Why should a criminal have the right to own a gun, especially if he has been convicted of gun-related offences? How about issuing a permit to all prospective gun OWners. Record name The store should record the name of the customer .with the serial number of the gun. This is not to inconvenience the customer, but to keep a record should the gun be stolen. I am a hunter and I own several guns. It is ridiculous to suggest that I give up those guns. It is equally ridiculous to suggest that I be permitted to own all the guns I want without a permit or registration of some sort. Anti-gun ‘ There is the anti-gun faction on one side who will not budge from their ideas. On the other side are the hunters and target shooters. They have budged from their policies. Now all we must do is get the two sides together. Some people have suggested that there should be a cooling-off period for prospective buyers of a gun. 258 â€" Six engine, automatic, radio. rear deiogger, walls, wheel covers. black vinyl roof. Lic. Blame government True, that mentally deranged person person could buy a gun on the spur of the moment and kill someone, but this is the fault of the government. Got to fight Like so many of my readers, I have been guilty of letting someone else fight my battle. Now' the time has come to do something. Let me know how you feel about this problem. I‘d like to hear from both sides. Just remember the old saying, if you don‘t bend with the wind, you may break. You won‘t have to bend all the way. This should have been stopped long ago; My idea of a permit would eliminate this danger. It Would take a week or so to get a permit anyway. By then, even a sick person would have cooled off. Province lax How about the Provincial government? Why are they so lax with their hunting policies? Let‘s get rid of the bad and unethical hunters as well. All of us would benefit from that. If you are a bad driver you lose points and eventually your licence. Why not institute the same system for hunters? Hunter-safety tests have cut down on accidents all right, but I feel it is time to test the hunter for more than safety. If such a system costs too much, raise the cost of the hunting license. Few real hunters would complain. Public land for hunting is shrinking fast in Ontario. We pave too many hunters at any one time and unless we curb this, land available to the hunter will soon disappear. : a ’troilblozert i' >, OUTDOORS WITH / ................. white- Alex Ebetsgaecher UP TO BALLROOM DANCE LESSONS COMMENCE FEB ON ALL GIFT MERCHANDISE EXCEPT FURNITURE AND UUILTS JANUARY 26 TO FEBRUARY 5 ’ AURORA HIGHLAN‘DS’GDLFCLUB . , KEEP N MEMBERSHIP SAUNA :53 ‘0 MAY AND DINING FACILlTlES 60 ALSO AVAILABLE H AURORA HIGHLANDS GOLF CLUB OAK RIDGES â€" You couldn't exactly describe it as a close win but the league-leading Richmond Hill Dynes Jewellers had to scramble in the third period to down a determined Midland Flyer team 9-6 Monday night. “We led by 7-2 going into the final period," said coach Pete Artemchuk, “and then we relaxed and they bounced back with four straight goals." He paused. “But they have a pretty good club and they’ll be tough in the payoffs.” Lose Brumwell The Jewellers also lost goalie Doug Brumwell early in the second when he took exception to 3 Midland elbow and proceeded to pummel his opponent. Out of game. V firumwell was replaced by Joe Hall who was victimized by that four-goal last peripd M_i_dland a_ssau_it. The Jewellers, despite playing without some key players including Brumwell, did all right. Out with suspension from the previous Owen Sound encounter were Neil Crockford and Dale Roffey while Larry Gueran couldn’t make the trip. Also still missing is injured Dave Stuart. Big line “We replaced Roffey with Tony 4 in row for Hill badmin toners They had to settle for an 8-8 tie with Trinity in a fiercely fought match played last week at Trinity. Trinity led the Hill 8-4 at one point and needed just one more game to send Richmond (continued from 8-1) the way with Bayview's squad. under the tutelage of Cliff Nuttall, showing poise all the way against Jay Hooper’s Thors. The Bayview team controlled play in the dying minutes of the game with the score tied 30-30. The Thors’ captain and point guard Scott Mann took his fifth foul with two minutes remaining and that proved Thornlea‘s downfall. RICHMOND HILL â€" The Richmond Hill Badminton team made it four games in a row without a defeat but it wasn’t easy. BaSIview’s Willock then pumped in three more baskets to win the game. Robinson on the line with Reston and Sherman and they came up with a big game." said Artemchuk. “In fact, day in and day out, Reston is sort of an unsung hero on that line. He came through last night with six points." The line came up with a total of 10 points. Open scoring Midland’s Andy Lacroix opened the scoring in the first period but the J eweller’s roared back on four straight goals by Rusty Cochrane, Ian Crock- ford, Robinson and Reston. Beginning of the end. Midland scored again in the second but then it was Karel Laarakkers scoring followed by Jim Clement and Sherman. Andy Seeman, Andy Lacroix, John Beauchamp and Rene Peletier scored for Midland in the third but goals by Reston and Sherman in the closing minutes made it unamimous for Oak Ridges.
