Scott Cleland of the Richmond Hill Trampoline Club shows the style that won The Richmond Hill Tennis Club team had too much going for its opposition last Saturday at Thornhill as they won the second annual Nestea Junior Tennis championship for this area. Richmond Hill's impressive line-up included nationally ranked players Paul Beck, Anne Minkley and Jennifer Sheppard. Included among Richmond Hill‘s victims was a Thornhill team con- sisting of Peter Malcomson, Bill Buckler, Linda Sills, Shawna Sidwell and Deirdre Lennon. The Nestea Tournament involves more than 250 clubs across Canada with 5,000 young tennis players competing. Last year‘s national winner was the Toronto Cricket Club. In spite of a gallant effort by all of the Thornhill team it was Richmond Hill all the way with an overwhelming victory. They were undefeated. 8-4 - THE LIBERAL. Wednesday. In the girls under 18 singles, Linda Sills of Thornhill won over Kelly Hadden (who is nationally ranked), also of Thornhill. Joyce Sneddon won the ladies singles and was also runnerup with June Beck of Richmond Hill in the ladies doubles. This was won by Jean Scott and Carol Cody of our Thornhill club. When the championships were over he had Ontario’s best male trampolinist on his side. The Richmond Hill Lawn Bowling Club will officially open its 1977 season next Monday at 1:15 pm. and the aétion will be heavy right through to Oct. 12. That was Rick Cleland who won the senior advanced competition and the Ontario Gymnastic Federation Provincial trophy which goes with it. “I have to say I was surprised," admits coach Juhasz. “According to ratings there were two others who should have finished ahead of Rick.“ It will be a summer of tournaments highlighted by the Men’s Invitational Tournament June 18 featuring rinks from all over the province and the United States. Richmond Hill‘s Liz Peterson picked up her second gold medal in as many years as she again won the Junior Novice competition for girls. Liz has béen with the Richmond Hill club for {our years and is a student at Laggstaff Secondary School. Then it was teamfnate Robin Weekes discovering gold in the Senior Novice for women. It was her second win in a row in this event. Robin has been with the _club for two years. Also impressing was the coach‘s son. Gary Juhasz, who hung in there for a third place finish in the Junior Boys (16 and under) and came up with a bronze medal. He then combined with the same Hooper to finish first in the syn- chronization routines; and first in the mixed synchronization with Heather Ferguson.
