C-12 â€" THE LIBERAL. Wednesday. May 18 WWW A / Her interest in hospitals started when she worked as a junior volunteer with a group supporting a Toronto home for under- priviledged children. Goodwin outvoted MAPLE â€" Councillor Terry Goodwin lost an attempt to have more than $14,000 in planning consultants payments deferred April 18. As president, Gail becomes 'an ex-officio member of the hospital‘s board of trustees, and will serve on its public relations committee. Later she started a junior auxiliary at the Montreal Children‘s Hospital. As well‘ she has been a member of the junior auxiliary of the Canadian Cancer Society, and, most recently, a member of the York Central Hospital Auxiliary. The bills included $10,000 for work on the Thornhill-Vaughan plan and another $4,600 for work on the Maple plan. The bills were from consultant Terry Kelly. Councillor Goodwin was outvoted 6-1. Other councillors were satisfied with the ex- planation of Planning Director John Dewar that Kelly had attached his logs to the bills showing the work had been done. Dewar sent the bills over to the treasurer to see if the money to pay them was in the approved budget. It was. The logs were no longer attached to the bills by the time they got to council. “Part of this is missing," said Dewar when he checked them. Councillor Goodwin said council and the planning director did not know how much of the $33,000 in the budget had been spent in comparison to the amount of work done. “How far along are we? If you don‘t watch it you will be in the same trouble as you were with Sawchuk and Peach," he said. Dewar said there was one more bill from Kelly for $2,000 and he un- derstood it was the last in the current phase of the work. He took exception to Goodwin‘s remarks about Sawchuk and Peach. “Council asked them to do extra work and they made you aware their budget was running out." he said. After the meeting. Planning Committee Chairman David Fraser said the dispute with Sawchuk and Peach. the original planners of Thornhill-Vaughan. had been resolved. Council held back payments on amounts over the original budget but was convinced it was for extra work not in the original contract. 4 councillors Tokyo bound “Tokyo?
