Home cooked camp meals in minutes Selecting an efficient cooler is perhaps the most important consideration. For the camp cook who wants to take it easy, many meals can be cooked and frozen at home. When placed in an ice chest they help keep other foods chilled. Foods that are the most perishable should be packed in food storage compartments and used first. Foods that should be kept near freezing should be placed on the bottom of the cooler under a layer of ice. Because cold descends, they will remain coldest. Packaging all ingredients for a meal in individual wrappings or containers is a big time- saver when cooking begins. Pre-measured ingredients can be placed in plastic bags and bundled together for complete meals. A typical floor plan includes a dinette which makes up into a double bed, and a galley that provides sink, gas range, ice box or gas refrigerator. Do you want to have home cooked meals in minutes while com- muning with nature in the wilds? Well, it‘s as easy as sitting down to eat â€" or almost â€" when you pack your cooler right. Other popular amenities are privacy curtains for the sleeping areas, a power converter that permits running the unit‘s DC appliances off a conventional AC line, a crank system so the FLOOR PLANS Most versions of the camping trailer have a solid aluminum roof and two large double beds that slide out to form commodious sleeping “wings” at each end of the unit. Generically, the unit is a single-axle trailer with box that erects into a tent that can sleep from two to eight people. The trailer becomes the floor of the shelter, keeping the campers up and off the ground. The camping trailer is not a new idea, but new design techniques and lightweight materials make it one of the most practical concepts in portable housing. Whether you know it as a tent trailer, popup or camping trailer, modern hunters are taking more of them into the field where these highly portable campers provide warm, dry, above-the- ground living quarters. But in the wilds, all food items should be kept away from the tent. When possible, all food items should be suspended from a tree. They can be hung over a strong branch, or elevated between two trees on a rope. That way you can enjoy watching the animals in their Any cooler will be more efficient if it’s prechilled. This can be done by filling it with ice for several hours before packing it. Before adding food, and at campsite, loosen the plug to drain the water from the melted ice. natural habitat eating your food Cooler accessories are another convenience in organizing food. Plastic or steel cased ice chests offer the ad- vantage of providing an additional camp seat. Both are equally efficient at locking in cold if they are urethane insulated. Size is determined by the number of people in your group, the length of your stay and the space limitations of your car. For many outdoorsmen the primary advantage of the camping trailer is its “towability.” Since the camper collapses to a height below that of the Of course the option that makes the camping trailer a hit with the deer hunters, bird hunters, and early spring fishermen, is a built-in gas furnace. These heaters warm up the tent quickly, and keep it that way for pennies. STAYS DRY And while other canvas shelters always seem damp. the camping trailer stays dry since ventilating air can move below and around the entire unit. Whether you are an active hunter who is tired of sleeping on the ground, or an active family looking for a carefree camping vehicle at a modest price, the cam- ping trailer may be just what you need. Typically, camping trailers are available in 14-foot through 20-foot lengths (measured with slideout beds extended). Prices put the trailer at the economy end of the camping spectrum. VERSATILE The versatility of the camping trailer is not the private domain of the hunter and angler. Young couples and budget- minded families find that these recreational vehicles give maximum camping fun for the dollar. 15% DISCOUNT MAY 13 - JULY 2 Box 100, Huntsville, Ont 705-635-2441 In most units there is access to storage areas without having to raise the tent. Experts When packing meals, consider the foods that give you the nourishment to make the wheels go round. Protein is a long lasting source of energy, but doesn’t digest, quickly. On the other hand, carbohydrates â€"â€" sugars and starches â€" provide a quick source of energy. For weekend or one-day treks, the variety of food you carry is almost a matter of choice. Human pedal power provides a source of non- polluting energy. And to cyclists, replenishing that energy supply adds zest to the trip.
