Rich- mond Hill Kinsmen and Oakville. their exhibition schedule with a home game tomorrow night (Thur~ sday) and then travel to Etobicoke for a weekend tilt. “The Liberal" team lost its first game on tie- breaking penalties to Scarboro United who won their league cham- pionship this season. St. Robert‘s junior girls won their second game in a row in basketball play Monday downing Thor- nhill 26-20 behind the eight~point scoring each of Laurie Andrejicka and Andrea Korchiniski. “It‘s the longest streak ever at St. Robert's," said a spokesman. r _ This moved Richmond Hill into the “B” series where they continued to play fine soccer and downed Newmarket 5-1, Thorold 3-1. and Willowdale 6-0 in the finals. The senior girls didn’t {are so well. They lost 36- 21 to Thornhill despite a 17-point performance from Saskia Vriends. Willowdale had also lost on penalties in the first round before winning over Waterloo and Aurora. Coaches Geoff Brown and Gord Cardwell directed the winning “Liberal” team. It was the first time a local entry has taken some of the tournament silverware. St. Robert’s win again Their second game resulted in a 2~0 loss to the older and more powerful Chinguacousy team but coach Maurice Cooke was happy with the team’s performance. The smooth-running tournament was a tribute to the extensive organization and tremendous efforts of Tournament Director Bob Rockarts and assistants Dave McAllister, Al Thomas, Gerry Van Essen and referee-in- chief Derek Smith plus all the ladies who toiled all day in the kitchen. Thornlea Secondary School opened its York County soccer season last week splitting games with Dr. G‘ W, Williams of Aurora. Receiving the big crunch were the Thornlea seniors who ran into a powerful machine from Aurora and went down 7- Special mention must be made of the efforts of the Minor Mosquito Kinsmen. The young boys played extremely well and defeated Whitchurch- Stouffville by three goals to nil to move into the “A” series. Playing well despite the score was Thomlea goalie Steve Cashen along with Serg Migotto. and Jun Terado. It was a vastly different story for the Thomlea juniors who subdued Aurora 4-1 in an im- pressive fashion. The Fraser Cartwright- coached juniors fired in two first half scores with Alan Plitang hitting paydirt for the first one with an assist to John Trimboii. The second half saw Thornlea add to its score on Plitang‘s second goal with Lavinio also assisting on this one. Then it was Lavinio getting his second one from Mike Wyers. Thornlea splits soccer It was 24) on a 35-yard line-drive by Angelo Lavinio. Also impressive for Thornlea juniors were captain John Trimboli and Peter Steinbrecker who came up with some exciting saves in his role as goalkeeper.
