I Am A Camera And that is “I Am A Camera.“ the John Van Druten drama based on Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories of life in Berlin in the 305, which continues at the club the rest of this‘week to Oct. 15. English “as she is spoke,“ is only part of the action. In fact, it is only in the last act that we get a bona fide English voice and accent. Up to then, it has been more German. In making the language match the locale, the club has not only added an authentic touch. but has once more shown the versatility of its mem- bers. All three “Germans†â€"â€" Bonnie Sheppard, Colin Nickle and June Abbott â€" are wunderbar with their adopted tongue. and one is hard put to think how the play could have been done any other way. Some how or other it makes good sense to have a play featuring Germans in Germany, done in the language of the land, or at least something ap- proximating it. - Mastering an accent takes work. plus nerve. and the players are to be German de rigueur in play JUNE COLEMAN . .street talker commended for both their efforts this way. Dave Phillips, as their brash and wealthy, but less-than-stable mate. speaks a different sort of language. which lets them all down in the end.
