A BAZAAR The Good Shepherd Ladies’ Guild is holding a bazaar on Saturday, November 12, from 10 to 3 pm. at the Holy Redeemer School, 111 Aspenwood Drive in Willowdale. The Unionville Con- servation and Develop- ment Society hopes to make the Unionville main street a “people place“ more than once a year. Now the scene of the highly successful Unionville Festival one Saturday each spring, Kennedy Road needs more businesses where local people can shop, says Ken Ackles, chairman of the UCDS. “It is now mostly an- tique shops, not that there is anything wrong with antique shops, but we would like to have more stores where people can do their everyday shopping." The plans would be developed in conjunction with the building of the Unionville bypass. The society was formed about eight years ago to oppose the widening of Kennedy Road and the bypass became the alternative for getting traffic past the heart of Unionville. Parking on Kennedy Road itself would be reduced to one side only, with benches and trees sprouting where there are now parking spots. The concept was to be discussed by the new executive of UCDS when they met this week and will soon be presented to markham council. One big question is how much the ideas will cost to implement, says Ackles. Even two mopeds were sold but didn’t go far for they can still be seen being driven around the area. At the same time, the society hopes to enhance the nineteenth century flavor of the street. Their concept, and Ackles is careful to say that nothing has gone beyond the conceptual stage, is to have a parking lot on the valley land off the street. Barbara says the Roxton furniture. the French Provincial dining room set, the office furniture, antique chairs and everything else on the lawn was sold within a couple of hours to among 60 bidders and the lucky ones carted off their purchases in trailers and station wagons. People place planned Husband Ken is starâ€" ting up a business in England so Barbara Coulthard and her three children, Donald, Diane and Linda, will be renting so the kids can finish school in Canada. He says auctions took place thousands of years ago in Babylon and although there are not many auction sales on the lawns of residential areas. they have them in the country quite often. He says that in a garage sale you don‘t always sell everything. Dunn, of Oak Ridges, who is with Wilson Industrial Auctioneers has been in the business for the past 15 years and says he has done auction sales from Whitehorse in the Yukon to Newfoun- dland. For him no two days are alike. ByDOREEN LIVINGSTONE 889.9922 When Ken and Barbara Coulthard, formerly of 26 Canadiana Drive in Thornhill, decided to move and sell some of their household items, they went one better than a garage sale, they had an auction sale. Someone from their moving company told them about auctioneer Charlie Dunn. Family moving to Europe holds auction in Thornhill C-2 â€" THE LIBERAL.
