To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the school will be the scene of an open house. Tuesday, December 13, from 3 to 5 pm. and 7 to 9 pm. The school is located at 30 Pearson Avenue. Former students, parents and staff members are cordially invited to attend. The Charles Howitt Public School in Thomhill is having a birthday. He is best known for his active work with the Boy Scouts and was the doctor in charge of the World Jamboree for_Scouts held this summer in Prince Edward Island. His interest in Air Cadets prompted him to urge the Richmond Hill Legion to sponsor the 778th Squadron, of which his brother, Robert‘ was the first Commanding Officer. His interests elsewhere, as welll He was one of the founding members of the Richmond Hill Trumpet Band, ‘The Hilltoppers'. He is actively in- terested in sports and is the timekeeper for the Rams. One of his major in- terests is with Tour- naments Incorporated, which is responsible for the Midget Hockey Tournement held every March in Richmond Hill. Doctor Peter Granger is a recipient of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal. The present Chief of Staff of York Central Hospital, he was nominated by the Town of Vaughan, where he has practised for many years. Another medal recipient is Gordon McGhie of Richmond Hill. Recently retired from the position of canteen supervisor at Pine Ridge Hospital. he is now busy with volunteer work at the Villa Hospital. Chas. In the late 19605, the Richmond Hill Jaycees were highly recognized when they went to the International Jaycee Convention in Paris and were voted the most outstanding Jaycee unit in the world. They were noted for their “annual radio auctionâ€, their “buy locally" campaign to promote local business, and they played an active role in the “get out to vote" campaign, as well as hosting numerous “Meet the Candidates“ evenings.
