Born 36 years ago in Toronto, she is a nursing graduate of Toronto Western Hospital and former U.S. airline stewardess. Then how come she’s a charity fund business consultant and lecturer with her own company Hamilton Enterprises, while being a part time model (junior petite) and mother of two? Could that be because she taught self- improvement to girls at a Dallas reformatory and saw the world for three years as a travel agent? Double, quick cooking. She married a childhood best friend, the boy next door, Dr. Bob Fowler. He‘s assistant medical director at Sterling Drug, Aurora. Her fund raising eon- sultant business started after she did volunteer work with Toronto Symphony junior women and for a few hockey groups. She‘s a past campaign chairman for Maple Canadian Cancer Society. But that Girl Guide work is up there on top. It’s part of Guide law to help each other. “Perhaps sometimes we adults lose our per- spective on why we’re in the Guiding movement. “We’re there, not for ourselves, but for the kids. Not for self- realization, although the work is certainly very satisfying. LIAISON JOB “As commissioner my job is liaison. If com- munications break down at any point; things can get so out of proportion and can really go wrong," she says. In Maple District there are two Brownie packs and two Guide com- panies. The company newly formed this year. lst Maple Guides, is composed of 14 new Guides who “flew up" from Brownies this year. The old company, strangely enough, is 2nd Maple Guides. ANNE FOWLER far west CHRISTMAS TREES i LOTS OF HANGING BASKETS $450 AND UP There are all new leaders in Maple and Concord this year, except one. Concord was af- filiated with Thornhill until it closed down two years ago. 7 The ai‘ea’s girls attend Maple schools, so a Maple affiliation is being tried. Leaders in Training, a new division leadership program has started this year, co-ordinated through Nobleton Ranger Group. Three local teens are junior leaders in Maple Brownie Pack. One is a junior leader acting in a lieutenant position. Altogether there are 24 Guides and 42 Brownies. "It‘s not a big district. But it’s going to grow now with development ahead in Concord," says Commissioner Fowler. They are lucky to have Maple Lions as official sponsors, providing a grant during the last two years. MOTHERSHELP There’s a mothers’ group quite active in Maple now with 12 members, and a similar Concord group. The mothers are a priceless help. “There is the challenge to train the whole girl, to act as a member of a team while taking part in camping and outdoor activities," sums up the Maple commissioner.
