THORNHILL it“ it n n r. n n o n The ’Grand Old Bull' is mighty fine horse “Grand Old Bull" is one registered quarter horse who doesn't round up cattle like in the old days of the west. But he does round up something else. Ribbons and prizes. “Grand Old Bull" is a two-year-old gelding who is owned by David and Linda Tomlinson. To the uninitiated (the writer) a quarter horse is “an alert stocky muscular horse capable of high speed for short distances and of great endurance under the saddle." The dictionary knows the way. “Bull,” as he‘s at- fectionately known to his OWners, garnered a total of 114 show-points in 1977 on his round of provincial fair competitions. Good enough to finish second in the province among geldings the same age and fourth over-all among geldings of any age. Tomlinson runs a boarding ranch for horses called “Twin Pine Farm< 5" located at 10922 Yonge Street (north of Elgin Mills) and “Bull” is his pride and joy. COST $600 “We bought him for just $600 when he was about eight months old," he said. “A friend of ours sold him to us. We were offered $3,500 for him last October." It was a “no” answer from Tomlinson. “We‘re not necessarily interested in selling him at the moment," con- tinued Tomlinson. “Our enjoyment is in showing people just what you can do with a horse if you feed him properly and blacksmith him regularly. He really looks sleek." Tomlinson has been “showing” a lot of people during the year displaying “Bull” at numerous fairs throughout the province. These outings are essentially “beauty contests, if you will," states Tomlinson. “People get to observe History repeats self 33 Trinity ties Hi/l History repeated itself last Wednesday when Trinity wrestled a deserved point from the Richmond Hill Bad- minton Club in an ex- citing 8‘8 tie at Trinity. Trinity was the only club last season to take a point from the Hill in a repeat 8-8 draw. Tomlinson maintains that “any horse can become a showcase if it gets the proper main- tenance which is our reason for being in this business. “We‘ve started boarâ€" ding out horses and we're interested in proving to people who own horses just what can be ac- complished.“ Tomlinson and wife Brenda are willing to show their end-results- Bullâ€"to anyone interested. Just call him at 883-4723 or drop around with your horse. As for Bull? ROBBED He was temporarily robbed of receiving his “big prize" ribbon for his accomplishments in 1977. Temporarily, anyway. “We were supposed to be presented with the ribbon at the Ontario Quarter Horse Banquet December 10," said Tomlinson. The only problem was that the banquet was in London which was hit by a major snowstorm. The banquet will held January 27. Hang in there, Bull. DO IT NOW!! .
