Are snowmobiles on the out againâ€? I don‘t know for sure. but like many others I got rid of mine long ago. There are very few around our cottage now as compared to a few years ago when the still of the night was constantly shattered by snowmachines roaring about aimlessly. Perhaps the novelty has worn off or they‘re too costly. enough. as have my ears. After snowmobiles. cross country skiing was the big thing and still is. However there are places that you cannot go with the long slender skis Deep snow and heavy brush is the main problem in our part of the country, not the best for skiing unless you wish to remain on the established trails. person had them all along as there was no other way to get back in There is also the aspect of exercise. Not that I'm an expert. but I believe that snowshoeing is even better for you than jogging. ()riginalshoe The original snowshoe was the bearpaw type. Still in use now. this type was once almost round turn imâ€" which you must often. choose the proved bearpaw. For regular bush travel. the beavertail ialso called the Michigan. Trail. Maine and Western! is hard to beat. (lurs are this type and we are completely satisfied with them. L‘nlike the bearpaw. the beavertail is tail»heavy. This is helpful in keeping much like walking in two inches of snow with regular boots. When choosing a new pair of snowshoes check the frames to make certain the grain of the wood is running straight and there must be no knots in the wood. The frames must be made of ash wood and the webbing should be of natural animal hide. There are about five dollars and they are available in most good sports stores There are several types and most will do the job. Mine have a wide toe~strap which goes over my toe. and long straps that cross in front and wrap around my heel and buckle at the side. I have been told that one can make a harness from an old inner tube but unfortunately. there larrigan boot which more often known as a high moccasin, It has no hard sole and is perfect for the snowshoei', The mukluks with a full length crepe sole are \ery good but you must have the ones with laces in front The main thing is that you need good support and it is very important that your foot doesn‘t slip around with each step. 15 thi LIBERAL. Bond losers 2 It wasn‘t an ideal weekend for the Rich mond Bond Steel Minor Atom A's as they lost two tight 2b and 3-2 games to Richmond Hill and Barrie respectively. The Barrie game Sunday saw Richmond Hill‘s Derek DiBattista come up with a big night in a losing cause as he scored one of the goals and assisted on the other one. Barrie jumped into a 2-0 lead with goals in the first and second periods before Derek got one back in the second unassisted. The end-to-end game saw Barrie finally getting by the Richmond Hill forechecking to score its winning goal in the third period. There were just 12 seconds to go when Richâ€" mond Hill's Dave Repath took a fine pass from DiBattista to make the score 32. Robbie Bell came up with a fine game in goal as did Pat Dickenson at centre and Brian McKenna on wing. The Newmarket game Saturday in Newmarket saw some fine defensive work by Aldo Teofilo and Superb netminding by Mauro Paoletti keeping Richmond Hill in a game which saw them badly outshot.
