Thornhill This Week Tenézé§ demay Most people don’t, like someone knocking on their door and rambling on about something. Wendy says. “For the most part. I was very well received, once the people realized I wasn‘t selling anything". She finds some people just won't listen to her, but for the most part, she is enjoying her job. To get a summer job through this program, the students have to apply as early as January. They are sent to a vacancy near their home, and from then on, it’s up to the employer. What surprises Wendy is the number of people who have no idea what the Helpmate program is all about. She got the job through a provincial program called ‘Experience 78‘, and she says, “I love it". Wendy Mount from Oak Ridges is doing just that this summer. She is going around the community knocking on doors to tell people about the Help- mate program and what it has to offer. Knocking on doors throughout Oak Ridges and Lake Wilcox. when you’re not selling anything can be an in~ teresting experience.
