Howden Young people in 1962 and 1963 were much the same as the young people of today._ They were eager to become involved in doing some good for other people in any way they could. When the York Central Hospital Auxiliary was formed and underway, the young people (girls and boys) in the three area high schools wanted to do their share, and they began the Junior Auxiliary. The first of the three groups was formed in Thornhill in March 1962, and the members' started a grocery tape drive to buy a television for the hospital. They were so successful, that by the time the hospital opened in November, 1963, they had enough tapes for three televisions. This was a sign of the way things would go for the Juniors . . . they would continue to be successful in anything they ventured, and they still are, some 15 years later. The other two groups were at Richmond Hill High School and Bayview Secondary School, and the fund raising ventures they carried out were equally successful. DAUPHINEE, PASTOR INTERIM MINISTER Dr. S. R. McClung BM York Central Hospital Auxiliary hospital, the Junior auxiliary girls were called Candy Stripers because of their red and white striped uniforms, but as time marched on, the members chose to be called just Junior Auxiliary. u The duties performed by the early .junior auxilians were few, but important. They used to spend a lot of time in the paediatrics playroom reading to and- playing with the children. Fifteen years later, they can be seen all over the hospital performing a variety of duties from escorting patients from one service to another to delivering flowers, and supplies, including drugs from the pharmacy to the floors. Paediatrics, however; still has a special place in their hearts. Today there are more than 100 members in the Junior Auxiliary, they still raise money for the hospital, and they still help out in many ways. These young people are all in high school, and they give time after school, 'on weekends and especially during holidays. Without their help and thousands of hours every year, York Central would never be the same friendly hospital it has always been. r ' WW"‘N"J‘!‘&‘N‘§‘""I‘f'xi for all ages. 11 AM. .Morning Semce 7:00 PM. â€"Evenlng SerVIce Prayer meehng Wednesday at 8:00 PM An Old Fashioned Country Church on the Edge of the City 10:00 AM. - Bible School Classes Sunday.
