January 10. 1979 Hill minor midgets miss at Galt The Richmond Hill Minor Midgets advanced to the grand cham- pionship at the annual Cambridge Tournament of Champions recently before losing 6-4 to Belleville.. Richmond Hill dominated play in the first period building up a 4-1 lead It was Dave Car- michael putting Rich- mond Hill in front 1-0 only seconds into the game, Carmichael then lit the red light for his team's second goal midway through the period and that's the way it stayed until a fine second effort display by J. P, Farrell made it 3â€"0. Belleville then capitalized on a penalty for its single‘counter of the first period. Then entered Mr. (‘armichael again as the big defenceman whistled home his third goal of the game to put Richmond Hill in front 4-] at the end of the opening period. Second period action saw Belleville come on strongly to score two additional goals to narrow the score to 4-3 before the period ended. The third period saw Richmond Hill put forth a valiant effort in an at- tempt to strengthen their Baif boys beat Orillia then lose to Aurora The Richmond Hill Cadillac Baif Peewee “A” team won 4-2 in their Friday night league game with ()rillia. Orillia scored twice before Scott Boyle got the first goal in the second period with an assist to Orveo Paoletti. The third period saw Paul Joslin tying it with assists to Gino DiGioacchino and Scott Russell. John Zandona scored the third goal seconds later from Kevin Ryan and James Barry. With two seconds left Scott Boyle scored the final goal from Scott Russell and Gino DiGioacchino. On Saturday night the Hill lost 3-1 in Aurora in a league game. Kevin Ryan scored a goal near the end of the second period from ()rveo Paoletti. Aurora tied it; and then scored two more in the last of the third period. On Monday night the Peewee team goes to Georgetown for an exhibition game. and on Thursday at 8 Burlington comes to Richmond Hill for an exhibition game. Friday night is a league game in Newmarket at 8:45. On the weekend the Hill team is host to Depew New York for an exhibition game on Saturday at 6:10 and on Sunday at 2 pm. in the Bond Lake Arena. Tickets are now on sale from all parents of the Peewee “A” team, for a dance on February 3, in the Richvale Community Centre. Branson Bantam B’s win two, lose one The Richmond Hill Branson‘s Bantam B’s won two games and lost one last week. They entered the Uxbridge Tournament and nipped Brampton 3-2 in the first game only to lose to Uxbridge in the second by 5-1. Goalscorers for Rich- mond Hill were Steve- Rumble. Paul Durigon and Peter Major with assists to Mike Goldsmith and Joe Bilotta. Peter Major got the lone goal in the second game unassisted. League action saw Branson Foods beating Orillia 5-1 last Friday night in a real gutsy game. The game produced 21 penalties. 11 to Orillia and 10 to Richmond Hill. Doug’s Dunkers blitz R.H.M.D’s by 87-36 Doug‘s Dunkers maintained its space atop the York Region Family YMCA Men‘s Basketball League standings last week blitzing R.H.M.D.‘s 87â€"36. Team captain Doug Hancey and Don Moss accounted for 19 points each. For the R.H.M.D.‘s it was Alex Mathews and Sante Mairi teaming up to score 11 and 10 points respectively. The second game saw a big upset as the Misfits defeated the Hoopers 46- 41 for the first time this season. Dave Walker shot for 14 points for the Hoopers before fouling out of the game. Albert Munroe and Bob Crouther held the team together to keep the game from getting out of control. Big Stan Sneider came up with 19 points for the Misfits to lead the way. Nine of his points were on foul shots. Also helping offensively were Grant Shwartz and Pete Kleinbeernink. Evergreens win 2-0 The Richmond Hill Minor Atom A‘s blanked Newmarket 2-0 Sunday with Jason Maxey ear- ning a well-deserved shutout in the first league game of the new year. Aldo Teofilo scored the first goal in the second period from Brian (‘oulson and Andy Minuti. The last goal was scored in the final period by Brian Hunt from Maurice Poirier and Warren Payne, An earlier exhibition game saw the Evergreen Lawn Sprinklers” 'team losing 6-0 to Toronto Aeros. lead only to have Belleville pop in the tying goal and follow it two minutes later with the go ahead goal that proved to be the winner. The Hill then walked into a series of penalties with Belleville notching the insurance goal to win the grand championship. The second game of the tournament saw Rich- mond Hill drop Owen Sound 6-3 on another fine team effort. This time it was David Barton's turn for the hat- irick. It was a truly fine effort by Dave and his linemates Andrew Don and Pat Lawlor Jamie (;willam. Mike Hagenauer and S. P Farrell all added singles with assists to Don, two. Lawlor. two. But it took a goal in the final 54 seconds to seal their fate. The Thornhill team opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Andrew Ludwik from Brock Fisher and Angelo Fazâ€" zari.
