The skateâ€"a-thon is set for January 28 at the Lions Community Rink in Richvale. Skate-a~thons are a great way for youngsters to raise money, and the Rich- vale Lions Majorettes are no exception. The girls are busy trying to get as many pledges as they can to make this fund raising venture a success. The United Nations has declared that 1979 shall be called ‘The Year of the Child‘ and the Richmond Hill libraries have many programs planned with emphasis on children CLUB 35 With the holiday hustle and bustle over, meetings of Club 35 for senior citizens will resume today (January 10) at 1:30 pm. in the club rooms at 10149 Yonge Street. As is usual‘ at this time of the year, memberships are due, and cards for 1979 will be available at the doror this afternoon. Today's meeting is the one where members decide times and days for all regular activities as well _as special coming events. Following the business meeting. there will be a travelogue on Hawaii with refreshments following. LIBRARY Memberships for 1979 are now due and cards may be obtained at the annual meeting. Everyone is invited to drop by and enjoy fresh scones with a variety of home made jams and jellies and a hot cup of tea or coffee. Classes in February will con- centrate on chair caning, apple dolls and bread baking, and in March weaving, spinning, rug hooking and quilting will be featured. A lecture series on antiques is scheduled for five consecutive Thursdays beginning later in January‘ BURR HOUSE The Tuesday afternoon Scone 'l'eas will resume January 16 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Pioneer crafts will be taught at Burr House, only the sessions will be a little different this time. Each month. there will be lessons in a different craft. During the month of January the emphasis will be on needlework, samplers and knitting. EASTERN STAR The Richmond Hill Chapter 302 Order of the Eastern Star held a Grand Officers Night recently at Wrixon Hall. The meeting was attended by 137 members and their guests, who all enjoyed the pot luck dinner that was served. Guests attended from several areas. and among the special guests were Mrs. Olive Avery, Worthy Grand Matron. and Ripley Ballantyne. Worthy Grand Patron. In this program, you will find ways to eat properly. exercise to be slim and trim. do your own hair, manicures. facials and put together a wardrobe on a budget. Nothing does more for lagging spirits than a new look, and you can do it, with some help from this program. OTHER PROGRAMS The Parks and Recreafion Department offers a variety of progranw to appealto every age group. Some‘ of the adult programs starting this month are: Ceramics â€" a course for beginners. beginning January 16 or January 18 at a cost of $21 for eight weeks; Decorating With Flair â€" will show you how you too can have a beautiful home at very little cost. beginning January 16 at a cost of $23 for 10 weeks; Macrame â€" is designed to introduce you to this popular craft and show you how to make many beautiful and decorative items, beginning January 16 at a cost of $20 for eight weeks: Micro Wave Cooking â€" is a course that should appeal to new owners of micro wave ovens . . . a full course meal will be served at each session. at a cost of $30 for eight weeks, and it begins January 15; and there are a variety of sports and fitness courses being offered by the Parks and Recreation Department. Wheelchair Obstacle Course at Hillcrest Don Mills and Steeles The March of Dimes Awareness Day is Friday, January 19, and Hillcrest Mall is inviting the public to participate in a wheelchair obstacle course at the Mall on that day from 4 to 9 pm. All participants will encounter the same ob- stacles as those met day to day by people con- fined to wheelchairs. ‘ Friday‘s event will be an introduction to the Richmond Hill Rollers Basketball team, who will compete in a Wheelathon at the Mall on Sunday.
