Letteer They had tough time getting New Year cab For the past couple of years. the news media and people in general have voiced opinions on driving while under the influence ol' alcohol. The (‘hristmas season is especially one time of year it is best to take a cab: running the risk of accidents and all those spot checks are not worth it. New Year's Eve is also popular and I know a busy time for cabs, because everybody seems to want a cab at 9 pm. with a return of I am, This New Year's Eve my husband and myself along with two other couples had tickets for a dance at the Thornhill (‘ommunity (‘entre Two days prior to December 31. we called the local cab company inquiring if they would transport three couples on New Year's Eve from Richmond Hill to Thor- nhill. Their reply “Yes. just call one to one and a half hours prior to Fit Sex education policy to class From comments recently made to me about the Public School Board‘s stand on Sex Education. I read a growing consensus that policy on this subject should be fitted to the individual class. ()bvious reasons are the different priorities of different age groups and communities. as well as the fact that student peer groups tend to operate as class units. These reasons are supported by growing awareness that parents and teachers can both get better results if their messages are mutually supportive and are co- ordinated. But there is a further need because each family is affected by what other class parents are teaching - or not teaching. We may agree that a policy is needed â€" and it certainly is â€" but that policy must be acceptable to those affected. It may be of general interest that a few elementary schools are starting to explore group discussions between the teacher and the students‘ parents. Eric W. The same to Mayor Tony Roman. who. along with their more enlightened councillors have reached a significant decision regarding the hydro tower corridor. Their meeting with Alf Slong last week has brought the concerns of the citizens of this area into the political arena where they can be dealt with effectively. The question must be asked ! why did the Mayor of Vaughan not attend this meeting? Another question to be asked is why was this important report iregarding hydro towers) not carried in the Rich- mond Hill edition of The Liberal? Everybody in this area must be kept informed as to the progress we are making in this important matter and all editions of The Liberal should carry any pertinent in- formation. We thought a station wagon would be better giving both the driver and passengers more room Again. the reply was “Yes. but an additional charge of $3 would be added. because we had specified for the use of a station wagon." That was agreeable with all concerned. (In December 31 at 7 pm. I called for a cab. The lady who answered the telephone told me the cab would be at my house between now and 8 pm. I ‘ explained my previous day's con- versation and requested a cab for approximately 8.30 pm. The dispatcher said she would do her best. I no sooner hung up the receiver and went into the bedroom when there was a knock at the door. The cab had arrived. My husband called the driver back to the door. I tried to explain that he was earlier than expected and had my wallet in my hand offering to pay him even though he was early. Very abruptly he flung his hands in the air. implying no charge. We asked if he would then return and very rudely were told he‘d never return to this ad- dress again. By 8 pm. I once again telephoned. either the lines were busy or when it did ring. the lines rang about 30 to 40 times. At 8.15 pm. I ordered a cab and didn‘t bother explaining to the dispatcher my previous experiences. Approximately 25 minutes later the cab pulled up and we proceeded to get into the cab. Once inside the driver asked us our destination. He .informed us his vehicle was a five passenger car. I instructed the cab to continue to the next ad» dress where the other couple were also ready to NEED A MORTGGE.. THF [IBFRAL Wednesday January 24. 1979 â€" A-S ..... . . We asked the driver what the $3 charge was for and he stated it was tor packages He still insisted he couldn't take six passengers as it was against the law; he could be fined and he couldn't afford a fine. We said that was all right. paid him $1.50 and discharged the cab. We drove ourselves to Thornhill. It's unfortunate that Richmond Hill once again has only one cal) com~ pany, since Avenue has bought Regional out, Like the cal) com- panies. I. too. deal with the public and know that If my attitude had been anything like that which we had received. I would be amongst the unem- ployed and I guarantee not too many would have hired me. I don't mind having to wait for the cab because it is a very busy night for them. I also appreciated that the driver informed us ahead of time that he wouldn't take six passengers. But what I strongly disagree with is their attitude towards us who pay for their services and many of us tip them: and how does one cab have the PARTS*& LABOR I une-Up ' plus OIL CHANCE, FILTER and LUBE Most cars and light trucks â€"ADD|TIONAL PARTS& INSTALLATION EXTRA...
