New book out on infant care By KATHY RYDGREN Have you ever won- dered what whirls around in the mind of an infant, a really tiny infant. Wonder no more. The publishing house of Wade and Girling Thursday unveiled New York author Herman J. William‘s latest work in the baby care field, Let Me Introduce Myself, a 126-page diary written by an imaginary child through the first 30 months of his life. Through the basic, personalized notes in the fictitious diary, the child communicates how he feels and how he sees the world unfolding around him. The publishers are calling the book the newest and most up-to-_ date baby care guide on the market. A representative of the YWCA, however, who was at the unveiling Thursday at the Westbury Hotel. says the book is shallow and would appeal to only middle blass families. Chadd Alexander was born at 1:27 a.m. March 14 at York Central Hospital, Rich- mond Hill. Here, his mom, Suzanne Harvie tries to awaken him for the photographer, but he seems content to sleep. Herma Reuten. a YWCA leader to two groups of teenage mothers in Toronto said the book takes for granted there are two parents in the family. “Williams book is alright as a verbal guideline for low income families but it does not cross the social class structure. This kind of book would go right over the heads of my girls,” she said. Mr. Williams, however. is no stranger to both moral and phychological issues. He is a clergyman and has written and researched papers since 1930 collaborating mainly with Ernest Ligon also a clergyman and founder of the Union College Character Research Project in New York.
