He thought that meant he would then meet the lot coverage requirements. He also swore out an affidavit stating that the new building would only be of an auxiliary use to his house. The hole was just being dug for the new garage when Vaughan‘s chief building inspector Ron Williams came around to explain that the town had the neighbors. Mri Rondinella sub- sequently applied for relief from the bylaw‘s lot coverage requirements which would make his building legal. His application was favored by both the town planning and building departments, but following a closed-door session with the town solicitor. the planning committee last week turned it down. Councillor Jan Pool took exception to the claim of Robert Kirk, Mr. Rondinella‘s next-door neighbor. that the town staff had allowed the bylaw to be “flaynted”. He telephoned the town offices, and learned from Mr. Williams that a second application had been approved. The staff had gone to considerable effort to enforce the bylaw. he said‘ It was then that Mr. Williams checked the file and found that the structure still exceeded the lot coverage requirements. Mr‘ Kirk, a former councillor. thought the permit had been refused last summer. when he saw the excavation work getting started. He explained to the committee that his staff had thought he had checked the lot coverage. He thought they did it. Mr. Rondinella told the neighbors the building would look much better when it was completed. He planned to add a drop roof and paint the walls like a “mural”. This was a revelation to the neighbors. Most of the residents of Carrville must have attended the meeting. Asked why he wanted such a large garage, he said “for the same reason some people want a 20,000 sq. ft. house, for no reason at all." Mr. Rondinella then said he meant to paint it in two or three colors.
