He started out 18 years ago as a player, later switched to um- piring, then coaching, and now he's the new president of the Richmond Hill Men‘s Fastball League. “I kind of got squeezed into it." was the way DeGeer phrased it. “They needed someone and I decided to give it a whirl.” DeGeer, who replaced Paul Ortiz. is counting on his executive which includes Ortiz, to keep the league functioning smoothly on a day to day basis. “They are all representatives of teams," he said, “and they'll handle most of the little problems that will surely pop up. It‘s my job to see that the constitution is followed to the letter." He started 18 years ago with the Wimbridge and Allencourt intermediate teams, then played 15 years with the Vern Dynes Jewellers' senior squad before joining the Tom Hughes seniors. OTHER SIDE DeGeer was a member of a number of All Ontario cham- pionship teams before retiring and joining the “other” side as an umpire with the Richmond Hill Association.
