' When the diamond dusl finally settled it was Oshawa winning the ‘A' championship while the Dairy Queen girls of Richmond Hill walked away with the ‘B‘ laurels. The first game between Rich- mond Hill and (‘hinguacousy Budd‘s was tied l~1 after seven innings and was decided by the number of players reaching third base safely. Budd‘s led by one in this department and was declared ihe winner The Roman Corporation- sponsored Bantam Girls' softball tournament last Saturday was marked with upsets and sur- prises. Dairy Queen gals win B championship FISH DERBY Really finally, there will be a “Fisherama Derby" at the Richmond Hill Mill Pond. Trophies will be awarded to the boyvand girl landing the biggest fish. More on this later. There’s action every Sunday fight starting at 6 pm at the Town Park; SLO-PITCH Finally, Richmond Hill Slo-Pitch ball action. Sunday night saw The Ball Machine downing the Bombers 10-8, the Old Jays upsetting the Sudsers, and the Red Eyes winning their first game ever against the Misfits. SOCCER SCHOOL Finally, a raft of items: The Richmond Hill Soccer School will be again operated by Jeff Stephen at Crosby Heights Senior School July 3 to July 7; and August 27 to August 31. BE THERE And all of you youngsters and-or adults will get a chance to say hello to this great Canadian fighter come June 16 at Don Little’s. Be sure to be there. HURRY, HURRY I must hurry on now since I’ll be taking a muchâ€" needed holiday next week. Just some notes: Should mention I had a Very agreeable time at the opening day of the Richmond Hill Tennis Club last Saturday. The cheese was great not to mention the few bubbles I surrounded. NEXT TIME Met a lot of gracious people and even got to swing a tennis racquet. I kept missing the ball but you can’t win the world in a day. I remember agreeing to take another try at hitting the ball tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 9 am. I dunno, once I got the bubbles out of my head it didn’t seem too practical. Maybe I will though. If I’m not there, ladies, start without me. Cheers. If you require more information re applications phone Frank Briggs at (416) 884-6625. or write to 42 Gentry‘ Crescent. You certainly can’t get to know a fellow by talking with him for a half hour or so. But George came across as a modest, very down to earth type of fellow. A nice guy, I’d say. Very obliging. Well, that was all right. The thing that really got me came the next day following the hockey meeting. GENTLE GEORGE I got to meet George Chuvalo who is the Canadian heavyweight boxing champion. I know, I know. They just took his title away but I don’t care. And I recall practically praying that George would get that one big punch in and become World’s champion. It never happened and I can truthfully say that was one of my disappointments in life. STILL STANDING In any case George still holds the rather unusual modern record of never being knocked off his feet let alone knocked out. Looking at him, I can see why. [felt like a little kid again. I’d seen George get in the ring with people like Mohammed Ali and Joe Frazier and, of eourse, lose. But he certainly gave them a go of it. George is going to be in Richmond Hill this June 16 at Don Little Ford for a usedâ€"car promotion deal. He might get to read this and I have no intentions of getting in an argument with him about titles. So there. Chuvalo, as you may or may not know, is or was Canadian heavyweight champion for years. Even at 41 I don’t think there’s a Canadian fighter who can touch him. You can imagine how' great it was for: my ego being confronted by Chuvalo. I don’t know how tall he is but I know he’s 6’1” wide. Massive. Anyway, I was feeling remorseful about being so short when I received a call from_Tommy Burns who is general manager of Little’s Used Car lot and also a friend of Chuvalo’s. It reminded me of a few years ago when I attended a basketball player’s wedding. That almost ruined me. I must be the only guy in the world who’s ever suffered a whiplash injury from looking up at people. A couple of happenings reminded me of my stature in life the other day. One was rather trivial and came at a minor hockey meeting in Thomhill. It seemed like every one of those coaches were eight feet tall. It’s true you don’t see many parades but there's always someone around to help you with the important things in life. Like climbing on a bar stool. Getting off them’s easy. You just have to know how to land. Most of the time I don’t mind being a little guy. Little like 5‘4” or 5’5”. That's not so bad is it?
