Legion sponsors field meet By BOB THOMPSON For the 23rd conâ€" secutive year the Royal Canadian Legion will be sponsoring track and field for boys and girls 16 years of age and under. Long recognized as the grass roots training level for many of Canada‘s lop athletes, the Legion program has undergone many changes since its inception in 1956. The 1979 schedule has now been published and once again a National championship will be held. This year the finals are booked for the Canada Games site in Si. Johns. Foremost was the addition of a National Championship compet~ ition for bantam and midget athletes with all travel and ac- commodation expenses for the participating teams paid by the Legion. Locally, training for the Legion competitions will commence June 11 (Monday) at the Rich- mond Hill Town Park on Church Street North. Weekly practices will continue on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7 p.m. until'dusk, until the District E Championships on July 14. The District E meet is the first elimination contest on the climb to the Nationals, and the local Tri-Town Track and Field Club will be hosting this initial test. The age groups for Legion competition are 15 and 16 years of age for midget boys and girls. and 14 years and under for bantam athletes. In this byâ€"law, (a) "broadcasting undertaking" means a broadcasting undertaking as defined in Section 2 of the Broad- casting Act (Canada); (b) "candidate" means a person who is nominated for election to office in accordance with The Municipal Elections Act, 1977, and whose nomination is certified by the Clerk; (c) “Clelk” means the Clerk of the Town of Vaughan (d) "contribution" includes the greater of the stated monetary value of monies, goods and services received, or the fair market value of the monies, goods and services received by or on behalf of a candidate, but does not include the labour portion of any goods produced by voluntary unpaid labour, or any service performed by an individual voluntarily for a candidate without compensation; (6) "election" means an election governed by The Municipal Elections Act, 1977; (fl "elector" means a person entitled under The MUnICIpaI Elections Am, 1977, to vote in an election; THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF VAUGHAN lgl "expense" means the greater of the stated monetary value of monies, goods and services ex- pended, or the fair market value of the monies, goods and services expended by or on behalf of a candidate, but does not include the labour portion of any goods produced by voluntary unpaid labour, or any services performed by an individual voluntarily fora candidate without compensation; (i) "polling day" means the day on which the poll is to be taken under The Municipal Elections Ac‘, 1977.
