The best thing that could have happened to the Wilson Niblett fastball team on the holiday weekend would have been to be rained out in the All Ontario finals at Kemptville. It rained; but not enough. The Niblett team got to play two games losing the first one 6-0 to (‘ardinal and the second one 4-1 to Brockville. (tutsville. ST. She shot an 85, by the way. over the whole course. Nice going, Kirstie. By the way, it was her first hole-in-one. SUSAN HOLVIK I should also mention that another miss, 13~year-old Susan Holvik of 332 Kerswell Drive. Richmond Hill, was named “Athlete of the Year" for her achievements in sports at her Crosby Avenue Public School. Susan is in Grade 7. And, of course, congratulations to Susan. I‘ve been putting off this last note to the last. It was bad news for the Wilson Niblett fastball entry in the All Ontario at Kemptville. It didn’t rain enough. The Niblett boys lost 6-0 to Cardinal and 4-1 to Brockville and that was it. As I said, it was a rotten weekend. Thanks a fot, weatherman. CINDY NEALE Finally. Cindy Neale of King won the Grand Prix Monday at the Goodwood. England. equestrian show. Neale, 27, won the main dressage event on Martyr, owned by Charles Burns of Toronto. Prizes and tr0phies for the biggest fish caught by a boy and the biggest caught by a girl will be up for the taking. Be there. Fun. RIVER‘S END The second game was scheduled between rainfall number 10 and rainfall number 11 at No. 33 ballpark. I couldn‘t find it. My map had the dot right in the middle of the Thames River which apparently runs through London. ~ So I looked for a bridge with a ball diamond on it. No luck. ‘I couldn‘t even find the river let alone the park. And I‘d probably be still wandering around London if a flash flood hadn’t washed me back to Woodstock and thence to Richmond Hill. The big winner was St. Catharines who will now travel to Newfoimdland for the Canadian championships. She also won the Grand Prix Kur (dressage ridden to music) and placed second in the Intermediare II event on Martyr. Riding a second horse, Equus. After some diligent indepth digging I found out that both our Richmond Hill Slo-Pitch League all-star teams lost out. The first team managed to win one of three games while our second team lost both theirs. Well, at least no one drowned. Fortune smiled and they won the car. Word has it that the car was kept by Place who subsequently bought out the rest of his partners. Who says wrong doesn’t win out some time? Only kidding. Congrats. HOLE-IN-ONE Let‘s see now, a golf item here. The Richmond Hill Summit Golf and Country Club was the scene last week of another hole-in-one. I‘ve lost a few weekends along the way but this is the first time a weekend has lost me. LUCKY Let's see now, I should mention here that fortune smiled on three Richmond Hill and District Umpire Association chaps last week. By DAVE BARBOUR Richmond Hill Men's Fastball League pitcher Wilf Diceman has emerged as an awesome 0}} ponent on the rubber to those facing him in contests with the Town Auto Body club this season. Two all-star teams from the Richmond Hill Men's Fastball League found the air a little rarefied last week when they met the Wilson Niblett entry in the ()FL in an exhibition encounter. They suffered a 4-1 loss in the first game of a doubleheader and then had a no»hitter spun at them in the second seven-inning game losing 6-0. EXHIBITION The Jewellers will play Kin- near Leasing of the Richmond Hill Men‘s Fastball League in an exhibition doubleheader tomorrow night (Thursday) at the Town Park with the first game slated for 7:30 pm. The Jewellers were trying out Gary Wilkinson of Aurora on the mound in the first game with Moreland coming on in relief. A home run in the second in- ning and another run via an error in the fifth hurt the Jewellers‘ cause. Shortstop Paul Philips scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly. “McBratney in particular has come on strong of late and. of course. Moreland is doing his usual excellent work." said referring to Glen Moreland andiBlair McBratney. “Both Moreland and McBratney are pitching tremendous ball at the moment in the Beaches league and that's a great combination." he said. Getting by Owen Sound won‘t necessarily open any wide doors for the Jewellers. TOUGH FOES They'll also have to face powerful entries from Oshawa and Ottawa.
