The weather for the handicap singles was insufferably hot and humid so that for many people complete exhaustion proved to be their most threatening opponent. No one succumbed however and the day, helped along with iced lemonade and cold water packs, was a tremendous success. Two matches are worthy of special menâ€" tion: first, the semi-final between Firoz Gafoor and Sam Malcolmson and the finals between Sam and Chico Oulette. Both matches were hard- fought and developed a great deal of good will among the audience for Sam Malcolmson, who at his age should have had more sense than trying to win. Personally, in deference to the old times. I would have liked to have seen Sam win but. like everyone else, I suppose, my feelings were divided by virtue of Chico Oullette‘s tenacity.
