There’s trouble in Iran, explosions in Mississauga, an oil squabble bet- ween Alberta and Ontario. Where do I come in on all this drama? I went to the second annual meeting of the Richmond Hill Slo-Pitch League Monday night held in the Blue Flame Room at Consumers’ Gas. Now that you’ve got your breath back I’ll hurry on to quickly deal with some of the happenings before the next crisis steals my thunder. It was decided unanimously to keep the age at 30 and to walk Greenhead and Fournier purposely a few times during the season just to give them the feel of the game. OPTIONAL DRAFT An even more important decision saw those in at- tendance voting to leave it up to the individual players as to whether they wanted to stay with their present teams. If not they can go into the common draft with the newcomers. First, it was a big turnout. A total of 70 bodies at- tended the meeting which was quite spectacular when you figure there were 90 players in the six team league last season. Slo-Pitch is booming. GOOD NEWS An there's especially good news for those souls who have been wringing their hands waiting to see if they would be allowed in the league next year. There was some pre-meeting talk about upping the eligibility age from 30 to 35 to give some ancient players like Bill Greenhead and Rene Fournier a chance to reach first base. The vote was something like 40 for the optional draft and only 28 for the common draft. Democracy will out. Personally, I was leaning toward a common draft simply because I feel there’s a tendency to become “too serious†about winning if one team sticks together year after year. That, however, is strictly a personal feeling. EXPANSION It was also decided to allow expansion to eight teams from six teams next year if registration warranted it. The games would continue to be played at the Town Park Sundays starting at an earlier time. Jim Flett led the onslaught I know I’m getting bogged down into details but a final few last hurrahs here. The new 1980 executive will find Paul Patenaude as president; Coly Kloepfer, viceâ€"president; Jim Bolin, treasurer; and Lynton Friedberg, treasurer. Finally. I’m going into training right away for next year. I’ve got this bench at home which looks something like a ball bench and I just practice sitting on it without falling. CONGRATS Just notes: Congratulations to dressage rider Cindy Neale of King City who was named the Martini and Rossi horsewoman of the year yesterday in Toronto. The win was the second in a row for the 28-year-old Neale. She received last year‘s award for her eighth- place finish at the world dressage championship in Goodwood, England. She returned to Goodwood this year and won the Grand Prix event with her top mount, Martyr, and rode her second horse, Equus. to victory in the Prix St. George. Riding Martyr, she later won the Grand Prix at the Fountainebleau international dressage show in France. OBSERVATORY LANE RICHMOND HILL 884-1833 889-1436 Marwa y Wins three THORNLEA LUMBER Yikes! Paul Harrietha scored for the Rams in that period along with Oliver who got his second goal of the game. A bright spot for the Rams was the addition of Terry Thorsell of the Juveniles for the last two games. He picked up two assists in the game against North York. It was much the same story against the Rangers as the Rams just couldn‘t keep the puck out and trailed 5-1 at the end of the first period and 6-2 going into the third which bore even worse results. mmg ?‘ ’Birds lose 3-2 time and remained that way through two 10-minute overtimes before the final shootout on penalty kicks.
