Daybrea‘k, lotated in the north part of Rich. mond Hill, is a small community of people living and working together. Some might label Daybreak a home for mentally handicapped adults. but this term goes against everything the concept of Daybreak is trying to do. The facts are Daybreak opened its doors ten years ago to mentally han- dicapped adults, both male and female. bet» ween the ages of 18 and 56. and all capable of some day program. Once each month there is a ‘Coffee House' held in one of the four homes on the property. a time to sing or dance or just chat. The idea is for a friendly get-together of the people who live at Daybreak and a chance for the community to come and meet the handicapped as people. Mr. Egan encourages people in the area to come to the Coffee House. FRIDAY FR I DAY Daybreak now has another house in the town of Richmond Hill. on Church Street, where {our handicapped adults, one married couple as assistants. with their two children and another single assistant live. “Just come to get to know us a little bit." he said. and “let things evolve." Two more homes in the city of Toronto give people the option of the setting they want to live In. “Some like to work on the farm. but others found it too isolated,“ said Mr. Egan. After dinner parents and friends of the Daybreak community were invited for special tribute to Daybreak complete with a birthday cake and a dance.
